34 Barzillai replied to the king, “How many days do I have left to my life, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem? 35 I am now eighty years old. Am I able to discern good and bad? Can I[a] taste what I eat and drink? Am I still able to hear the voices of male and female singers? Why should I[b] continue to be a burden to my lord the king? 36 I will cross the Jordan with the king and go a short distance.[c] Why should the king reward me in this way?
